What is the origin of hunting ammunition?

The first firearms pulled pebbles and pieces of scrap from the forges. Then the first balls quickly appeared and sunk with lead and then hardened at arsenic to increase their performance. Until the 19th century, the powder was loaded by the barrel of the rifles called black powder rifles and the ammunition wrapped in tissues or greased paper (start of the cartridge) to reduce gas loss and optimize the yield of the ammunition of hunt. With the appearance of powders without residue and smokeless and in particular the appearance of the primer (percussion weapon) the ammunition gained reliability. Then came the case that revolutionized the world of weapons making the ammunition waterproof and much more precise and rapid.

Fire weapon is often characterized thanks to the caliber of its ammunition with which it is chambered. The mass of the ball in grams and the amount of powder determine the power of the weapon expressed in joules, but also its decline. From the Second World War the production of ammunition and especially that of the balls became industrial.

The different types of hunting ammunition?

First the hunting ball is a firearm projectile with a diameter less than 20 mm beyond it is considered a shell. From 1883, the invention of the core core ball sided of copper will revolutionize the world of ammunition. Copper being harder than lead, the balls could therefore see their explosive charges increase as well as their penetration power. At the end of the 19th century, the Spitzer ball appeared commonly called the pointed ball less destructive than the round ball, but faster and much more precise.

Then appeared the colonel Desaleux ball D, then the fragmentation ball, the explosive bullets and the so -called intelligent bullets. A heavy and fast bullet like 243 ammo will have more energy than a slow and light bullet. Today, all the weapons of different calibers have many possibilities of hunting ammunition and the choice of balls: plastic, oval head … allowing to optimize the shots and improve the performance of shooters and hunters.

In the second, comes the hunting cartridge which divides into three families the porching cartridge, the skirting and the cross. These rifle ammunition have different uses. The fatty flock allows close -up to short distance and therefore allows hunts in biotopes or visibility is disturbed as in woods for example for hunting the woodcock.

Croisson munition it further accentuates the dispersion of the wreath and is therefore made for very short distance for rabbit hunting for example. But this ammunition can be dangerous especially if you hunt with your dog under the rifle due to his very wide wreath. It is therefore better to proscribe it when you hunt with your pet.

As for the munition swing with skirt, it is used all over the plain, wood, pigeon hunting or even hunting for water game with specific steel balls for wetlands. The munition of hunting flock to skirt is generally faster and allows shots on larger distances, because they are often more loaded with powder and lead with a brass case like 6.5 PRC Brass.

The choice of the type of hunting ammunition that you draw will have a real influence on your shot and on your results during shooting competitions, but also during your hunting days. The cartridges have pellets which vary depending on their size and number which goes from number 1 to number 10. The higher the number, the more the lead has a reduced diameter, for example for plumbs number 9 which are almost the Smaller, they will suit perfectly for the shot of the church at a short distance. Conversely, a lead number 4 will be perfect for pigeon or hare shooting over medium and higher distances. There are also cartridges with larger pellets called herds or variants are expressed in grains (9 grains, 12 grains …) These herds are authorized in some departments only under certain conditions but are prohibited in hunting in the rest of USA.
